Stokes Arts offering kids summer art camps

The Stokes County Arts Council is hoping to encourage young artists this summer through a variety of day camps for kids ages 6 through 18.

A Kids Storybook Theatre Camp for beginning actors ages 6-10 will be held at The Arts Place of Stokes, 502 Main Street, Danbury, Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Camp will finish with a recital of “Animal Tales” on Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.

For the more experienced and older kids, Theatre Camp for ages 10-18 will be held at Mount Olive Elementary School, 2145 Chestnut Grove Road, King, Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Camp concludes Friday evening with a performance at 6:30 p.m.

A Visual Art Camp for ages 6 through 12 will be held at Mount Olive Elementary School Monday July 16 through Friday July 20, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This camp will explore different genres and styles of art through painting, drawing, paper sculpture and artistic games. Camp will finish with an Art Exhibition Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Kids Pottery Camp for ages 12 through 18 will be held at South Stokes High School, 1100 S. Stokes High Drive, Walnut Cove, Monday July 16 through Friday July 20, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This camp will focus mainly on beginner and intermediate instruction on the potter’s wheel, providing proper technique and allowing students to complete projects such as cups, bowls, and plates. This camp is limited to 12 students.

A Kids New Perspectives on Art Camp for ages 7 through 14 will be held at Mount Olive Elementary School Monday, July 23 through Friday July 27, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. In this camp, students will be guided through various creative processes from concept to completion. Activities will include clay sculpture, painting, digital photography and video, interactive art experiments and more. Camp will conclude with a Friday afternoon Art Exhibit at 1 p.m.

Registration for all camps is $85, with the exception of the Kids Storybook Theatre Camp, which is $50. Registration includes camp, t-shirt, and a Friday afternoon pizza party. Campers registering in advance will receive a $5 discount. Applications are available for download at www.stokesarts.org or by calling 336-593-8159.
