Make a Difference in King announced on Tuesday a group of volunteers will be rallying to finish the last bit of construction at the new playground in Recreation Acres.

MADIK organizer Ashley Turner said weather has been an issue up to this point and the original completion date of April, has been pushed back to June. On the list to complete is landscaping, pouring concrete for the sidewalk and picnic area, installing pavers, signs and plaques and a few small building projects.

“As long as the weather cooperates, we can move forward a lot quicker,” Turner said.

Children are still welcome to play, but will need to be supervised.

Turner and the MADIK board have been encouraged to see so many children enjoying the park and parents sharing pictures on social media.

“People are renting the wooden picnic shelter now wanting to celebrate birthday parties there,” she said. “We want people to have fun and to take care of their playground. Always show kindness and respect to each other as well as the playground itself.”

Turner said she’s noticed those who volunteered in the weeklong building project have helped spread the word about taking care of the playground.

“This was the idea behind a community built playground. The hundreds of volunteers will see to it that it’s taken care of and that it will remain a place for inclusive play, respect and love.”
