West Stokes senior lacrosse players Tristan Carter, Reid Pettitt and Jackson Sapp were selected to play in the seventh annual Triad East/West All-Star game on Wednesday at Grimsley High School in Greensboro. Wildcat coach Colon Moore was also picked as the head coach of the west team.
“This game was great in so many ways,” Moore said. “I got to coach a lot of talented players and work with some really good assistant coaches in Gene Kuhn (Reagan), Sam Newland (West Stokes), Jacob Moore, a rising junior at Belmont Abbey, and Quinn Kuhn, a rising senior at Lenoir Rhyne. We got a couple of big goals late in a back and forth game and were able to hang on for the win.”
The west team was made up of seniors from Forsyth, Stokes, Alamance, Randolph, and Guilford counties. Both the east and west teams were full of talented lacrosse players from across the Triad. The game was a tight contest throughout the match with west team winning 15-13 and having to hold off a late run by the east squad.
“Reid (Pettitt) and Tristan (Carter) both had several good shots, but didn’t get in the scoring column,” Moore added. “Jackson (Sapp) picked up multiple ground balls on face offs which allowed us to take possession of the ball and score. Our guys did a really great job, and worked hard. They gelled well with the other players after only two practices. I’m really proud of our guys and how they performed. They did West Stokes proud.”
The Triad All-Star game is an annual lacrosse game held every year since 2012 that highlights the best talented seniors from across the Triad that includes boys and girls from more 30 high schools with varsity lacrosse programs. One of the goals of the ASG Committee is to continue to expand community participation in the game and continually improve the game experience for the players, coaches, parents and fans.
