As summer quickly approaches, basketball camps around the county are beginning sign-ups for early registration.
North and South Stokes basketball camps kick-off on June 11. The Vikings camp will run Monday, June 11 through Wednesday, June 13 from 8 a.m. until noon. Early registration is $45 and will increase to $50 the day of camp. Campers will receive a t-shirt if registered before June 4. Children ages 8 to 14 are invited to participate.
“We want the kids to have a good time and hopefully pick up some drills that they can use at home to help improve their skill level,” North Stokes coach David Anderson said. “The camp will be focused on ball handling, dribble moves, passing, shooting and offensive and defensive moves.”

South Stokes camp will run Monday, June 11 to Thursday, June 14 for children ages six to 14 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $75 if registered before May 18 and $100 the day of camp. Each camper will receive a basketball, a water bottle, a camp shirt and a drink and snack.
“We hope the kids learn or take something away that they don’t already know,” South Stokes coach Jason Clark said. “I really hope they all have a great time and make new friends while playing the game of basketball. We also hope our players can grow by teaching younger kids different aspects of the game. It’s really important for my players to give back and be a mentor to the younger athletes in the community.”

The East Coast Basketball Camps will be held at West Stokes. The day camp dates are slated for Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21 from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and the developmental camp Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 28. The preregistration cost is $150 and $160 on the day of camp. Campers will receive a t-shirt, a $25 discount for registering for both camps and a discount if more than one child in the family attends. Ages for the day camp are rising third graders through tenth grade. The development camp is fifth grade through eleventh.
Campers can expect to receive fundamental instructions, daily skill contests, prizes and an opportunity to enter the East Coast Basketball’s Hall of Champions.
The developmental camper will receive a detailed fundamental book, workout program and will be shown how to improve and correct their fundamentals.
“The goal of our camp is to provide every camper, within a fun-filled atmosphere, the basic fundamentals necessary to play basketball,” said West Stokes coach Dan Spainhour. “We emphasize the fundamentals and every camper will be shown what to practice and more importantly how to practice. Everyone will receive plenty of individual attention. We want each camper to be a better player when the week is over.”
