North and South Stokes cross country teams competed and fared well at two different recent meets. The Vikings traveled to Pfeiffer University on Saturday and South Stokes ran at Fisher Park in Dobson on Thursday.
North Stokes didn’t have enough players to compete for a team title on Saturday, but brought four girls and two boys and each had personal best times or season bests during the event. Sophomore Abigail Hemric placed first overall out of 69 girls from 13 different schools. Her time of 20:02 was 44 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
Crystal Gwyn competed with a time of 27:36.00, Rachel Overby 28:03.00 and Madelyn Briggs 29:28.00 for the Lady Vikings.
North Stokes boys competed against 17 schools and 93 participants. Junior Jacob Moore placed the highest with a 10th overall finish and a time of 18.00. Nicholas Delp completed the race in 18:51.00.
South Stokes participated in the Fisher River Invitational hosted by Surry Central. Nine different schools with 90 boy runners and 50 girls participated. The Sauras boys finishing in fifth place as a team and Surry Central’s Erick Ramirez-Ramos finishing first individually with a time of 16:46.31.
Elijah Mitchell recorded the fastest time for the Sauras at 19:57.38 and finished in 16th place. Austin Harger and Ricky Gonzales finished with times of 20:25.56 and 21:06.38.
Lady Saura Ryley Lawson finished in 11th place with a time of 24:47.31 and Ashley James completed the course at 30:02.81.
The Vikings will travel to Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro on Sept. 30 and the Sauras will compete again on Oct. 3 at the Pilot Recreation Center.
