The West Stokes girl’s golf team placed second at Pilot Knob Park Country Club on Wednesday evening against Forbush, Surry Central, and Atkins. Surry Central placed two strokes ahead of the Wildcats with a team score of 164 to win the WPAC match.
Forbush’s Mallory Forbes was the medal winner of the day by shooting an even par of 35 on nine holes. Wildcat junior Lily Frosh finished third with a score of 46, while teammates Emily Cox and Emma Wade marked 60 each.
“These girls work hard and get better every day,” said Jeff Robertson, the Wildcat’s coach. “They like to work on their drives, but the short game is the focus they need to work on. You take more shots on the greens than you do the fairways.”
This marks the first year in school history West Stokes has filled a complete team.
“For the last a couple of years it’s just been me and Emma,” Robertson said. “We will be able to compete for a conference championship this year, which is something we have never been able to do. We have a really good chance if the girls will focus on the fundamentals of their short game and continue to work hard every time on the course.”
The Wildcats will have two conference matches next week at Cedarbrook Country Club and they’re back to Pilot Knob on Wednesday.
