West Stokes soccer team used three goals in the first half and another in the second to earn a 4-0 victory against South Stokes on Thursday afternoon.
“We defended the ball well tonight,” said Wildcats coach, Andrew O’Neal. “We had a lot better spacing and we kept the ball moving. I believe that was the difference in the game.”
West got on the board in the first seven minutes. Caleb Peters shot off a corner kick and Jacob Doncescz recorded the assist. Peters scored again with 16:30 left in the first half to put the Cats up 2-0. Right before then break, Levi Ashby landed his first of two goals on the night.
“Dylan Gupton played a very important role in our win tonight,” O’Neal stated. “He plays in the middle of the field and he kept a lot of balls on our side because of his aggressive play. Dylan was key in our offense, but so was our whole back line tonight. Cameran Knox, Connor McBride, Seth Moore, and Bailey Moran played great defense allowing us to play up more.”
The Wildcats had 27 shots on goal to the Sauras two. Senior captain Alex Booe added ten saves in the game for South, and Alex Puckett recorded two for West.
“We’ll have to continue getting better and doing some of the same stuff we did tonight to have a chance against East next week,” O’Neal said.
South Stokes (0-4) hosts North Surry on Tuesday and McMichael on Wednesday next week. West Stokes (1-2) will welcome East Surry on Tuesday, their only game of the week.
