The Lady Wildcats volleyball team remain undefeated with a 3-0 record after defeating county rival North Stokes on Monday.
“I’m really pleased with our play right now,” said West Stokes coach Jordan Stevens. “We were a little slow to get going in the third game, but we came back and finished strong after being down.”
In game one, North Stokes took the first point on a block by Leann Sessoms, but the Wildcats quickly gained control when Mackenzie Parker assisted Rachel Delcamp on her first kill of the night. West went on a 20-3 run before North’s Lora Wood broke the streak with her first of five kills. The game ended as it began with Parker to Delcamp for the 25-9 win.
Game two started with the Wildcats losing the first point before winning 25-11. The Vikings kept it close and only trailed 7-6 when West went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game.
In the final match of the evening, North came of the huddle and gained momentum quickly. Winning 8-4, Stevens was forced to call a timeout.
“I just told them to control the ball and communicate with each other,” he said.
Parker and Delcamp combined for eight kills in the remainder of the game and led the team on a 14-3 run, eventually winning 25-15.
Delcamp led the team with 15 kills, five aces, and seven digs. Parker had 27 assists, seven digs, and two aces, and Mackenzie Johnson led her team with five blocks. Wood led the Vikings with five kills and Meredith Rasey added two.
The Wildcats (3-0) will have a rematch with North Wilkes and then travel to another cross-county rival game with South Stokes on Thursday. North Stokes (1-2) will travel to McMichael on Thursday. Game times are slated for 6 p.m.
