Just a little over an hour from Walnut Cove, in Hillsborough, down a gravel driveway protected by a woven fence is Perry Farm Alpacas. Owner Jennifer Perry is putting the final touches on her 3rd Annual National Alpaca Days. This free event on Saturday, Sept. 23 is from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Cedar Ridge High School FFA will be on site with snacks for purchase as a fundraising opportunity. Kevin Baker, a singer/songwriter, will be providing a soothing acoustic performance. If you are looking for something fun to do, this is it!
We found her on Facebook and scheduled our visit. I was overwhelmed by the knowledge Jennifer Perry had about her alpacas. So much of the information surprised us! Oh, and do not bring your dog with you; they have guard dogs to protect their alpacas and the dogs/alpacas do not take kindly to other dogs (predators) on the property.
If you are alone, in a small group, or a club of any kind, this tour is amazing. The opportunity to enjoy this farm for free is an amazing treat. If you are unable to attend the event, I encourage you to contact her and schedule your private tour. It will be well worth your time!
Be sure to check out her alpaca fur balls for your dryer (you can add essential oils to them) and they are the coolest thing ever. Please tell her that the Ladies from Kohler Farms-A Shire Horse Breeder sent you! I just cannot say enough kind things about our visit to see the alpacas. You will be like us, telling everyone you know that this is an event you do not want to miss!
