There are a lot of events scheduled in September and October in Sandy Ridge. I’m going to list them in date order. Mark your calendars; there’s something for everyone!

Friday, September 22 – Hilltop Baptist Church Ladies Meeting – 6:30 pm in fellowship hall. Come and bring a friend.

Sunday, October 1 – Oak Ridge Baptist Church Octoberfest – Covered Dish @ 6 pm – special singing @ 7 pm

Friday, October 6 – Sharon Gordon Murphy’s Children’s Fall/Winter Consignment Sale – 9 – 6 pm at Sandy Ridge Community Center – Saturday, October 7 – 8 – 1 pm. For more information, contact Sharon at 613-1839.

Saturday, October 7 – Delta UMC Annual UMW Stew and Bake Sale – stew will be ready @ 11 am for $6.00/qt.

Saturday, October 14 – 2017 Annual Ridgefest – Fire Dept. – 10 – 3 pm – Reserve vendor space by September 25 – Contact Andrea Finch @ 669-0826.

Saturday, October 14 – Sandy Ridge Music Association – Sandy Ridge Community Center – 6 pm – Appearing: Last Minute, Swift Creek & The Fitzgerald Family – 50/50 raffle, concessions

Saturday, October 21 – Delta UMC “Cruise In” – 10 am – hot dogs and bbq for sale, door prizes (everybody gets a ticket) – no registration necessary – come and cruise or sit and watch the cruisin’.

Saturday, October 21 – Riverside Baptist Church Fish Fry – American Legion – 2 – 4 pm – Gerald Alley will, once more, be frying up the catfish. Plates are $8. Music by: The Fitzgerald Family, Harvey Hawks, Johnny Manuel & Friends, God Can singers from Patrick County, VA – bake sale, 50/50 raffle, door prizes

Saturday, October 21 – Hilltop Baptist Church – Annual Community Stew – 12 noon – hot dogs and chili for the kids – Everyone welcome!

Saturday, November 4 – Oak Ridge Baptist Church – Community Stew – fellowship hall

TRIED AND TASTED RECIPE

Onion-Roasted Potatoes (I love these; they are so easy to fix!)

1 envelope Lipton Recipe Secrets Onion Soup Mix

4 medium all-purpose potatoes, cut into large chunks (about 2 lbs.)

1/3 cup olive or vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In large plastic bag or bowl, add all ingredients. Close bag and shake, or toss in bowl, until potatoes are evenly coated. In 13 x 9 baking or roasting pan, arrange potatoes. Discard bag. Bake uncovered, stirring occasionally, 40 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden brown. Option: Use Garlic Mushroom, Onion-Mushroom, Golden Onion, Savory Herb with Garlic or Fiesta Herb with Pepper in place of Onion Soup flavor.
