Well, it’s full steam ahead for the Second Annual Farmfest. Even though the Stokes County Board of Commissioners has postponed the decision for us to use the school grounds for the event, the planning stages are still in the works. The final decision from the Board will be made at the meeting on Monday, August 28. Our next community meeting will be Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., August 29. We plan to have most of what everyone enjoyed from last year’s event. But this year, we plan to add some new features such as a tractor parade and tobacco tying contest. We will also have additional events for the kids. So now is the time to let your voice be heard. What do you want to see and experience? Let us know by coming to our meetings. Stephen Jessup will be heading our tractor and farm equipment displays, so if anyone has anything they would like to bring and show off (especially if it’s antique) please give him the information at 336-351-4142. Just leave a message if no one answers.

There will be a Public Hearing Thursday, 5:30 pm at the Francisco School to discuss rezoning. Like I said, this is a public hearing so everyone is invited to attend. Maybe our stalled journey from the past two years will be going in a different direction. When God closes a door, He also opens a window. We’ll see.

The Northern Food Pantry is still in dire need of volunteers for the first and third Thursdays of every month. If you could space some time, it would really be appreciated. Volunteers are also needed for those Wednesdays of every month, to help unload food trucks at the Pantry. Monetary and food donations are greatly appreciated. For information please call 336-414-6484 or 919-360-2604 or message their Facebook page at Monetary donations may be sent to Pantry treasurer, Joel Moorefield 1565 Moorefield Rd. Danbury, NC 27016. Please make your checks out to Northern Stokes Food Pantry.

The ladies of the Asbury Evangelical Presbyterian Church will be having a Yard Sale Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26, in the basement of the church. The sale starts at 7 am and will go until 3 pm both days. Check this out and get some really good deals.

The Dan River Baptist Church will be having their Homecoming Service Sunday, August 27. The service will start at 11 am and Brent Sawyers will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served following the service. Everyone is invited to attend.

Please remember the Ronda Wilkins family in your prayers. Ronda passed away after battling cancer. If any of you ever visited the Bookmobile here at Francisco, you will remember this sweet, soft spoken soul. She was a fixture at the Danbury Library. Ronda will be greatly missed.
