Can you believe it? School will be starting soon. Patrick County started last week! Be sure to look for the “little ones” that are waiting for the bus. And please, obey the traffic rules as they apply to a stopped school bus. No appointment is worth passing a stopped school bus!

Dan River Baptist Church will have a Women’s Conference Saturday, August 19, at the church located on Highway 704 in Francisco. The Stokes County Board of Commissioners decided Monday afternoon to postpone the decision again to let the Communities Group use the Francisco School playground for its second annual Farmfest. The Farmfest was such a successful event last year, bringing the community together. Let’s hope that this will be a long standing tradition.

We will have a community meeting Sunday, August 20, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Francisco School (at the picnic tables weather permitting). The Farmfest will be the main topic. Everyone is invited to attend.

I don’t know if you have heard, but there is a solar eclipse happening on August 21, (yes, I’m being sarcastic). This is supposed to be a really big deal. Don’t be stupid and try to look at it unless you have those solar eclipse glasses. Not sure what the weather will be for that day. Hope it’s clear. This will be something cool to tell the grandkids years down the road. I remember Mama talking about one eclipse years ago. She said the chickens were confused and went to roost in the middle of the day. This is one thing that man has no control over.
