King and Walnut Cove have celebrations planned for the nation’s birthday, with fireworks displays on July 3 and July 4.

The fun kicks off in Walnut Cove on July 3 at 6 p.m. at Lions Park.

The celebration will feature music by “The Fenders” and concessions will be sold by the Lions Club. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and sit back and enjoy the fireworks display at dusk.

The event is free.

On the Fourth of July, King will present its own fireworks display beginning around 9 p.m.

There is no set viewing location, but it may be viewed from many locations around town. Limited parking is available at the upper parking lot of King Recreation Acres (White Road entrance), King Public Library, Central Park Amphitheater, and the Carl Calloway American Legion Post #290.

On Sunday, July 1, Hanging Rock State Park is hosting a beach party and bonfire set to kickoff at 6 p.m. with live music. Swimming hours will be extended until near dark and admittance is free. Several local organizations including the Stokes County Farmer’s Market, Friends of Sauratown Mountains and Danbury Community Church will have displays set up with items to sell.

Organizers say the event is planned earlier in the week to allow people a chance to see fireworks scheduled on July 3 and 4.
