The award winning UNC School of the Arts Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Ron Rudkin, will present a free public performance on Sunday, April 29 beginning at 4 p.m. at the King Central Park Amphitheatre, 302 Kirby Road in King.
The performance, sponsored by the Stokes County Arts Council and City of King, will offer a diverse musical program that includes selections such as Solar (Miles Davis), Donna Lee (Charlie Parker) Groove Blues (Don Menza), West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein) and others.
The UNC School of the Arts Jazz Ensemble has performed in concert jazz festivals, concert halls and events across the Southeast. Director Ron Rudkin has led student jazz combos on summer tours in Europe as part of UNCSA’s former International Music Program, and for more than a decade directed all-star UNCSA alumni jazz groups and the UNCSA Jazz Ensemble at Manteo, NC as part the school’s summer festival series.
The event is free, with donations and concession sales supporting the Stokes County Arts Council College Scholarship Fund.
