Sheriff Mike Marshall and the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office have been presenting a safety program designed for local churches. After recent incidents of mass shootings, including at churches, several church leaders contacted the sheriff’s office and requested their assistance in setting up a safety plan.
Topics covered in the program include establishing a church safety/security committee, North Carolina laws regarding the carrying of concealed handguns, and having an evacuation plan.
“It’s a sad reality that we need to cover these issues, but I feel it is important to keep the public informed. Our citizens should feel safe at church, and I hope this program will help answer some questions that they may have,” Marshall said.
