The Stokes County Arts Council is proud to feature Bill and Carole Bryant in the Hanging Rock Gallery located in the visitor’s center auditorium at Hanging Rock State Park during the month of September. An opening reception will be held in their honor on Sunday, September 3, at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Hanging Rock Gallery. The public is invited to enjoy refreshments, talk with the artist and view an exhibit of beautiful paintings and photography.

Bill Bryant enjoys landscape photography as well as making candid portrait and still life photographs. His goal is to invite the viewer to share his vision through his work.

Bill’s interest in photography began as a child when his father shot black and white photos, developed film negatives and printed his photos in a small home darkroom. Bill helped in the darkroom and his father taught him to develop film and to make prints and enlargements.

While in his 20’s, Bill set up his own small home darkroom and carried out that same process for a few years. As Bill’s family grew, he began making color slides to document milestones. His next involvement in home darkroom developing and printing occurred when he helped his teenage son set up a darkroom and worked with him to develop skills.

After retirement from the electronics industry, he purchased his first digital cameras and began to educate himself by studying instructional materials as well as accessing available internet information. He has taken several classes and has attended workshops. Bill joined photography clubs to broaden his learning opportunities and to meet others who share a common interest. He has enjoyed participating in many local and regional photography competitions and has won numerous awards including “Best in Show”.

Carole Bryant loves capturing a transient scene in a painting. Sharing her vision with others through art is also her goal. She treasures the many facets of nature and strives to capture light in her art.

Carole studied oil painting then changed course for a career in nursing. After early retirement she resumed painting in oils and acrylics and studied painting in watercolor and pastels. She chooses her subjects from life as well as from her personal photographs. Carole has been juried into many competitions and has received numerous awards. Her works are in a number of private collections. She is an avid student and continues to study art history and studio art.
