DODSON
Mr. George Edward Ed Rattle Trap Dodson died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Cumberland County on February 12, 1939 to James Thomas and Arra Elizabeth Bowman Dodson.
Ed was a charter member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. He was an avid over the road truck driver for 44 1/2 years and retired from T.E. Dodson Transportation.
A 12:00 p.m. graveside service was held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Roberson and Elder Willie Brame officiating.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Lee Dodson.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann Barnette Dodson of the home; four children, Ricky Dodson and wife Margie of Walnut Cove, Melissa Moser of Winston-Salem, Todd Dodson and wife Addie of Belews Creek and Keith Dodson and wife Kris of Walkertown; four grandchildren, Brooke Dodson, Tyler Dodson, Taylor Dodson and Brandon Dodson; one sister, Brenda Marsh; and one brother, Archie Dodson, both of Belews Creek.
The family received friends from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home.

GATTIS
Mrs. Leah Alberta McElroy Gattis, 78, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born November 13, 1931 in Oconee County, GA, to the late Albert Cove McElroy and Hardimon Blasingame McElroy.
Mrs. Gattis was a member of First Christian Church in King. She retired from Leggs Products and worked seven years for Chick-fil-A at Whitaker Square. She was an avid NASCAR and Wake Forest fan.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gattis was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald William Gattis, in 1994, and one brother, Hascal McElroy. Surviving are her five children, Michael Gattis of Winston-Salem, Bonnie Martin (David) of Tyrone, GA, Renee Gattis Payne of Fayetteville, GA, Tony Gattis (Paula) of Fayetteville, GA, and Patrick Gattis (Jacque) of Pfafftown; five grandchildren, Heather Gattis Payne of Fayetteville, GA, Brent Hodgson of Telluride, CO, Daniel and Laura Gattis both of Pfafftown, and David Gattis of King. Also surviving are sister Marinda Darby of Maggie Valley, NC; sister-in-law Vivian McElroy of Macon, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, at First Christian Church in King with Glenn Van Meter, minister, officiating. Burial followed at Jefferson Church of Christ in Rural Hall. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 9, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.

KISER
Mrs. Hazel Henson Kiser, 84, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 27, 1926 in Newburg, MO, to Jim and Agnes Husky Henson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colon Worth Kiser in 1979; three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Hazel was an avid traveler, enjoying trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas with her grandson, David Kiser and former daughter-in-law, Judy W. Collins. Burial services were held at Popular Springs Church of Christ Cemetery on August 8, 2010.
MABE
Mrs. Emma Lucille Duncan Mabe, 75, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born December 2, 1934 in Stokes County to Teddy and Lacie Mabe Duncan. On November 17, 1951, Lucille married Thomas Gordon Mabe, and they had six children together. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Germanton and was employed by Burlington Industries and Unifi, Inc. in Madison for over 30 years and farmed most of her life. Lucille enjoyed gardening, cooking, country music and going on vacations with family and friends whom she dearly loved.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Northview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Thomas Mabe; one daughter, Carolyn Mabe Scott; one son, Michael Anthony Mabe; and one brother, Lewis Duncan.
She is survived by four children, Darlene Bowman and husband Wayne of Ararat, VA, Brenda Mabe and husband Roger of Danbury, Ricky Mabe and wife Mildrey and Kenneth Mabe and wife Karen, both of Danbury; 13 grandchildren, Lisa Sells, Lucinda Love, Amanda Bowman, Donna Handy, Jacob Bowman, Alan Mabe, Kimberly Parrish, Heather Mabe, Timmy Mabe, Diana Lewis, Julie Thornton, Gina Mabe and Kenley Mabe; 17 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Richard, Tatum, Shana, Bubbi, Lizzie, Tyler, Kayla, Corey, Amy, Rose, Angela, Abby, Andrew, Dylan, McCrea, Elijah, Megan and three on the way.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Michael Anthony Mabe, 48, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born in Stokes County on November 30, 1961 to Gordon Thomas and Emma Lucille Duncan Mabe. He attended Danbury Presbyterian Church.
Michael attended Walnut Cove Elementary and South Stokes High Schools. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and riding his tractor. He sincerely and faithfully loved and cared for his parents.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Jim Thompson officiating.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Thomas Mabe, and his sister, Carolyn Mabe Scott.
He is survived by his mother, Emma Lucille Duncan Mabe of the home; two sisters, Darlene Bowman and husband Wayne, of Ararat, VA, and Brenda Mabe and husband Roger of Danbury; two brothers, Ricky Mabe and wife Mildrey and Kenneth Mabe and wife Karen, all of Danbury; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts, Nancy, Ellen, Alice Jane and Trudy and uncle, Shorty.

SMITH
Mr. Burke Smith Jr., 79, died Thursday morning, August 5, 2010, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
He was born February 5, 1931 in Stokes County to Burke Smith Sr. and Alvesta Flinchum Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove.
Mr. Smith retired as a heavy equipment operator/foreman from Comer Brothers Construction Co. and was an avid fisherman. He followed the racing careers of both his son and grandson, often attending their racing events.
An 11:00 a.m. funeral service was held on Monday, August 9, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Norman officiating. Burial followed in the First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Duggins Smith of the home; two children; Rickie Smith and wife Nancy of King and Vicky Powell and husband Bobby of Walnut Cove; five grandchildren, Tyler Wilson, Matthew Smith, Kim Hundley, Amanda Speed and Melissa Smith; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Hundley, Nick Hundley, Tristian Smith, Logan Wilson and Rex Mathis; one sister, Barbara Grubbs and husband Tom and one brother, Tom Smith and wife Roxie, all of Walnut Cove.

Ms. Vivian Leigh Vaden, 69, passed away August 6, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 24, 1941 in Stokes County to the late Sandy Vaden and Nannie Jones Vaden. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaden was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Vaden Young; two brothers, Bill and Jones; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Gladys; and one brother-in-law, B.J. Nelson.
Surviving are her three daughters, Robin Giles of Walkertown, Sandi Burke (Rex) of Walnut Cove and Jane McMurtry (David) of Kernersville; eight grandchildren, Chad Burke (Angela), Aaron Moser (Brandy), Justin Carpenter, Zack Giles (Devan), Daniella Giles, Hannah McMurtry, Joy Johnson (Anthony), Grace Ann Giles, Emily McMurtry and Noris Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Jake, Charlie, Mikey and Sarah; two sisters, Shirley Vaden Mickey (Norman) of Westfield and Evelyn Vaden Nelson of King; also numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 9 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor Scott Wagoner officiating. Burial followed at Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Danbury. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Minnie Lee Ayers, age 79, wife of Mr. Ray Ayers of King, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Ayers was born in Stokes County on September 19, 1930 to the late Perry and Minnie McKnight Adkins.
BEASLEY
Mr. William Charles Beasley died August 3, 2010 at Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation. He was born September 23, 1923 in Surry County, NC, to Joe Andrew and Georgia Hope Worrell Beasley.

DALE
Mr. Joseph Edward Dale, age 60, of Dobson, passed away on August 2, 2010 at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

SNOW
George C. Snow, age 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Pilot Mountain, on August 3, 2010. George Snow was born on February 22, 1916, in the Siloam Community, to the late A.C. and Grace Hardy Snow.
