Individual wrestlers who qualified for the regionals were announced on Wednesday at the conference seeding meetings, after Tuesday’s press deadline.
North Stokes wrestlers will compete in the 1A West regional, held at Alleghany High School.
First round and second rounds are Friday with action getting underway at 5:30 p.m. and the third round on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
South Stokes and West Stokes will compete in the 2A Midwest regional, held at Ashe County High School.
First round and second rounds are Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. with semifinals and finals scheduled for Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
Both sites will have four mats going both days.
Teams competing in the 1A West regional at Alleghany from the Northwest 1A Conference are North Stokes, East Surry, Mount Airy and Bishop McGuinness. Other conferences represented will be the Southern Piedmont, Western Highlands, Mountain Valley and Smoky Mountain conferences.
Northwest 2A teams competing at the 2A Midwest regional at Ashe are West Stokes, South Stokes, Surry Central and North Surry.
Other conferences represented will be the Mountain Valley, Central Carolina and Rocky River conferences.
In 2009, several area wrestlers shined at the regionals, with three earning regional titles, including North Stokes’ Johnathan McHone at 125 pounds and West Stokes’ Brandon Boles at 112 pounds.
South Stokes’ Jordan Ford won the regional championship at eventually the state title at 171 pounds as a senior in ’09.
The 2010 individual state wrestling tournament will be held Feb. 26-27 at Greensboro Coliseum.
