There will be three categories: ages 6-12, 13-18 and adult. Each ornament must be handmade by the person that enters the contest, using any type of material. Hand-painted ornaments will be accepted. Ther ornament must be able to hang from a Christmas tree and include a hook or loop.
The nine ornaments chosen for the final round will become property of the SCAC and will be placed in a silent auction to be held at the conclusion of the award ceremony on December 18.
The entry fee is five non-perishable food items, which will be donated to East Stokes and King outreach ministries.
Ornaments will be accepted at the SCAC office, 500 N. Main Street in Danbury, from November 2-25. The SCAC office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The public is invited to visit and vote on their favorite ornament, beginning Sunday, November 29 (Christmas in Historic Danbury) through December 17, by 5 p.m. at the SCAC office. Votes will be $1 each.
The three top vote ornaments from each division will go into a final round where a panel of five distinguished judges will make the final placement decision. Cash prize and/or gift certificates will be given to each division in the following amounts:
—Adult: first place, $50; second place, gift certificate; third place, gift certificate
—Ages 13-18: first place, $30; second place, gift certificate; third place, gift certificate
—Ages 6-12: first place, $20; second place, gift certificate; third place, gift certificate
The awards ceremony will be held at Artist’s Way Creations, 508 N. Main Street, in Danbury, on Friday, December 18, at 6:30 p.m. There will be light refreshments, music and a visit from Santa.
At the conclusion of the award ceremony, the nine top ornaments will be available for bidding via a 15-minute silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the SCAC.
