A 34-year-old man has been reported as missing in the Pine Hall area of Stokes County. Erik Gray Dollinger was last seen on Thursday, July 30, walking off into the woods at 1195 Pipe Plant Road off US Highway 311 between Walnut Cove and Pine Hall.
During a search on Tuesday, a body was found in that area, but a positive identification cannot be made until the autopsy is complete.
According to law enforcement officials, Dollinger’s father reported him as missing. Stokes County Emergency Medical Services and fire departments from the area, including Stokes Rockingham, began a search late on Friday, July 31. Dogs were brought in to help comb the area near Pipe Plant and Pole Bridge roads.
According to Captain Craig Carico of the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department, “nothing turned up” during the ground search.
The High Point Police Department was then contacted to see if Dollinger reported for work at ITT on Saturday. They found that he did not, confirming the dad’s report that the man was indeed missing.
After further investigation over the weekend, Stokes County’s EMS and Sheriff’s Department, plus local fire departments, were brought in again on Tuesday afternoon to resume the search. This time, the area being covered was on the Walnut Cove side of Pipe Plant Road.
The investigation is continuing.
