People can come out to North Stokes High School at 7 p.m. to see local celebrities attempt to show off their basketball skills, but with a twist.

The Danbury Volunteer Fire Department will be playing a team of Stokes County celebrities in a fun-filled game of donkey basketball on Friday, Feb. 22.

The following Stokes County celebrities will be participating: Assistant Fire Marshal Travis Grey, Stokes County School Board Chairman Mike Rogers, School Board member Jamie Yontz, Stokes County Commissioner Ronda Jones, Lawsonville Elementary School Principal Greg Ottaway, Lieutenant Shannon Gammons from the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office, City of King Fire Chief Steven Roberson, Walnut Cove Police Chief Chad Williams, Wayne Fulp, Annette Wood, Eddy McGee from Stokes Arts Council, and attorney V. L. DeHart. See this team battle a team from the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department.

Also on hand will be 93.1 THE WOLF morning show host Chuck Marsh, who will be the celebrity emcee for the event and Jill Dyson, also from the Wolf. They will be giving away prizes in between quarters. Also participating in the event will be North Stokes Principal Nathan Rasey as the celebrity Super Duper Pooper Scooper.

The event will benefit the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. There will be a 50-50 drawing as well as a fun-filled half time show along with Donkey Rides for the children for $1 at half-time. The ladies auxiliary will be providing concessions for sale including hot dogs, drinks, and chips.

The show is designed for family entertainment. People can watch their friends and neighbors attempt to play ball while riding donkeys. Professional Animal Frolics donkeys often make this quite difficult as they display their stubbornness and ability to throw riders from their backs.

Admission is $8 at the door, and children under 6 are admitted free of charge.
