South Stokes’ varsity teams ended the regular season on a high note with wins against North Stokes on Friday night.
The Lady Sauras grabbed the lead early in the game and did not stop until they had a 59-45 win for the evening. South Stokes’ varsity boys team followed suit and sailed to a 74-52 win over the Vikings.
Lady Sauras Kelli Mounce and Hannah Wood led the team in scoring for the evening with 23 and 17 points. Wood got most of her points in the second quarter, when she caught fire and hit five 3-pointers to help put the Sauras ahead 37-16.
Heather Nall and Alexa Moorefield led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 13 and 11 points.
After losing several games in recent weeks, Lady Sauras Coach Mitch Adams said it was good to end the season on a win.
“It’s nice to be back in the win column,” he said.
Brandon Smith led the Sauras in scoring for the evening with 12 points. Matt Hopkins led the Vikings with 15 points.
“It’s been a long time since I have been this proud of a group of individuals,” Sauras Coach Jason Clark said. “I’ll remember this team for a long time.”
