King Little League signups begin
The following is a list of the remaining King Little League signup times and locations: Feb. 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Elementary; Feb. 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m at the King Public Library; and Feb. 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the King Public Library.

Alumni football coming to King
Would you like to strap on a helmet one more time? Alumni football is coming to King. Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games. Gridiron Alumni travels the nation pitting old football rivals against each other one more time. Players are needed to sign up and the first 40 players on each team get to play. The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home field advantage. Gridiron Alumni is targeting more of the biggest rivalries in the nation for its Gridiron Alumni Rivalry Series. Teams from West Stokes, Athens Drive, The Cary, Garner Magnet, as well as other area teams are forming now. The games are set for early spring. Madison soccer registration begins
The Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department began spring soccer registration on Monday, Jan. 14 for co-ed age groups 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, 10-13 and 14-17. Deadline for registration is Friday, March 1. Children must turn three before April 15 and cannot turn 18 before April 15. Cost of registration is $15 for residents of Madison or Mayodan and $20 for non-city residents. Non-city residents must also purchase either an individual user card for $35 or a family user card for $50, if they have not already done so. Annual softball tournament scheduled
Sandy Ridge Elementary School will host its sixth annual Brawl co-ed softball tournament on March. 2. Anyone ages 16 and older can join in the tourney. The entry fee for each team is $125. Each team must have a minimum of 10 players, including five women. Proceeds from the tourney will go to resurfacing the field with rock dust, updating equipment and general maintenance for the upcoming season. Regulations: men bat opposite handed; must field five women; men use 44 core ball, women use 47 core ball (provided); five home run limit per game; five run limit/inning, last inning open; only bat fielded players; one day, round robin/double elimination tournament. West Stokes to host baseball tournament
West Stokes High School will be hosting the CIAA-WVIAC Challenge Baseball Tournament Feb. 15-17. Game times are 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Fairmont State, West Liberty State, Concord, Winston-Salem State University, St. Augustine’s and Chowan will be participating in the tournament. Fans will be able to see former players from Stokes County, as well. West Stokes standouts Jeff and Jon Fansler now play for Fairmont State. South Stokes graduates Ryan Smith and Jacob Williams now play for WSSU.
Madison-Mayodan holds baseball registration
The Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department is holding registration for ball through Thursday, March 28. League/Age divisions: T-ball Ages 4-7; Dixie Youth Minor Baseball Ages 8-10; Dixie Youth O-Zone Major Baseball Ages 11-12; Dixie Girls Fast Pitch Softball Ages 7-8 / 9-10 / 11-12 / 13-15 / 16-18; Pony League Baseball Ages 13-14. Player age is determined by age of player as of May 1, 2013, for T-ball, Dixie Youth Baseball and Pony League. Dixie Girls Softball age is determined by age of player as of January 1, 2013. All those participating must provide age verification, with the exception of T-ball. The cost of registration is $15 for residents of Madison or Mayodan and $20 for non-city residents. Non-city residents must also purchase a user-fee card, which is $35 for an individual or $50 for the family. User-fee cards only have to be purchased once a year. All T-ball participants will need to purchase a game jersey for $12. All Baseball players will need to purchase uniforms, which include shirt, pants, and a hat. The uniform fees are Youth sizes — $25, and Adult sizes — $30. The price of Pony League Baseball and Dixie Girls Softball uniforms is yet to be determined. Walnut Cove Little League holds signups
Walnut Cove Little League will be having registration for softball and baseball over the next two weekends. The registration dates and locations are: Saturday, Feb. 9 at Sandy Ridge Elementary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 10 at London Elementary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 16 at Lions Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 17 at London Elementary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no late registrations after Feb. 17. Mailed forms must be postmarked on or before Feb. 17.
Physicals to be given at South Stokes High School
The South Stokes Athletic Department would like to announce that sports physicals will be given at South Stokes High School on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in the weight room beginning at 3 p.m. for a cost of $10. Students need to come by the main office or a parent needs to call and have the athlete’s name put on the physical list located in the main office. A copy of the new physical form must be completed and signed by a parent prior to a physical being administered. Athletes or parents may pick up a copy of this form in the office or download one from the school website for completion prior to Tuesday, Feb. 12. All athletes are required by the North Carolina High School Association to have a yearly physical. Official spring sports practices may begin on Wednesday, Feb. 13. This is a good opportunity to take care of this requirement for the 2013 school year. For more information contact the school at 994-2995.
