Thurs., Feb. 7

STOP meeting — Unlimited Success will host the STOP (Stokes Takes on Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse) meeting at the Stokes County Government Complex in Danbury on Feb. 7 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting will be on the third floor of the Ronald Reagan Building. The coalition will be planning upcoming events including a medication disposal event in late March. Anyone interested in attending is welcome. Seminar — The Real Estate Brokers for Stokes County (REBSC) group will be hosting an educational seminar on Feb. 7 at King Public Library. This seminar will educate people who may be interested in buying or selling real estate properties in 2013. Class will begin at 6 p.m. For more information, go to www.stokeshomesandland.com.

Sat., Feb. 9

Bingo — The Lawsonville Community Building will host a Bingo Fundraiser on Feb. 9 starting at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available.

Performance — “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed by the N.C. Shakespeare Festival on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the King Moravian Church Fellowship Hall, 234 West Dalton Road, King. Dessert will be served beginning at 6 p.m. Contact the Stokes Arts Council for more information.

Tasting — Madison-Mayodan Rotary is sponsoring their sixth annual Tasting Extravaganza at Deep Springs Country Club, 160 Country Club Drive, Stoneville, on Feb. 9., from 1 to 4 p.m. Fine local and international wines and local brew will be available. Cat Daddy and Midnight Moon will also be served. Homemade goodies, gourmet coffees and teas complete the array of foods. There will be live music and a silent auction. Proceeds go to Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad, Museum Archives Rockingham County and Madison-Mayodan Rotary Projects. Advance tickets are $20; $25 at the door. Tickets are available from any M-M Rotary member, Capital Bank, BBT, New Bridge Bank, First Bank, The Front Porch (Eden), Serenity Salon (Mayodan) and Deep Springs Country Club Prop Shop (Stoneville).

Chicken stew — Francisco Boy Scout Troop 421 will be hosting a chicken stew at Collinstown Stateline Community Center, 2481 Collinstown Road, Westfield, on Feb. 9 from 5 p.m. until. Drinks and desserts, dine in or take out. Donations accepted. For more info, call 336-593-2752.

Concert — The Stokes County Arts Council presents the John Cowan Band in concert Feb. 10 at 4:30 p.m. at South Stokes High School, 1100 South Stokes School Road, Walnut Cove, with special guests Lacy Green / The Good Fellers. Book club — King Public Library’s Book Club will meet Feb. 12th at 7 p.m. This month’s title is “Angela’s Ashes” by Frank McCourt.

Thurs., Feb. 14

Storytime — Bring your child to the King Public Library Feb. 14th at 6:30 p.m. for some Valentine and sleepy-time stories. It’s a sweet treat for your little ones!

Fri., Feb. 15

Pruning demonstration — A fruit tree and small fruit pruning demonstration will be held at the Harold Brown farm site, 1222 North Stokes School Road, Danbury, on Feb. 15 from 2-4 p.m. Learn correct pruning techniques for apple, pear, peach and grapes. Also features weed, insect and disease management for orchards. One hour of pesticide credit will be offered in categories N O D X. Music — Live music will take place on Feb. 15 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Coffee, Tea & Me, featuring the Stokes County music group, Stained Glass Canoe. This will be an acoustic show featuring classic to current rock, blues and Americana music. Coffee, Tea & Me is located at 109 E. Dalton Rd., King. No cost for admission. Photo contest — Northwestern Regional Library Traveling Photography Contest 2013 is titled “Show Us Your Best.” Submit your winning photograph at the King Public Library.
