Schools across the region let out early as snow and sleet arrived earlier than anticipated.
Stokes County Schools closed at 9 a.m. on Friday, and all activities were cancelled for the day.
Stokes County government offices were closed on Friday as well.
A winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service, and it remains in effect until 9 p.m. Friday evening. Snow and sleet accumulations could total one to two inches.
While snow and sleet were expected to arrive by noon, many reported seeing it in their area of the county before 9 a.m.
Motorists are asked to use caution as sleet and freezing rain could cause slick roads and travel difficulties.
