Ms. Wanda Hairston celebrated her birthday at the home of her mother Margaret Robertson on Sunday, January 20. Diane Dalton and Marilyn Booe along with her sister Gencie McCrae, daughter LaShandra Goodwin and twin grandsons Justin, Jordan, Stephen and Stephon were there to help her celebrate. Wanda is a patient at Walnut Cove Health Care.

Ms. Essie Joyce celebrated her birthday on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Pine Hall community building. In attendance were her sons, Bruce Mills of New Jersey, Danny Joyce of Pfafftown and Tim Joyce of Winston-Salem; daughter Diana Johnson of Reidsville; also her sisters Lillie King of Walnut Cove, Emma Gray of Winston-Salem and Grace Poole of Winston-Salem; brother Willie Mitchell of Walnut Cove. Many of her nieces, nephews and grandchildren attended.
NAACP will hold their monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Walnut Cove Senior Center (Old Colored School).
A service for Dr. Martin Luther King Day was held at Rising Star Baptist Church on Jan. 21. They had poems, praise, dancing and a walk through downtown. Everything was wonderful and a great day to get out and congregate. Great job C.A.P. for beginning this program.
Kenya Jones will represent Southeastern Stokes Middle School in the county spelling bee to be held Feb. 12 at Nancy Reynolds Elementary School.
