The Stokes County Board of Elections is in the process of mailing voter cards to those registered county voters it has not had contact with since October 8, 2010. This procedure is a requirement of state law and is one part of the elections office’s efforts to maintain an up-to-date voter database. The most common type of contact from a voter is through the act of voting itself; other examples include signing a petition and updating registration address or party affiliation.

If a voter receives such a card, the information on it is accurate, and the individual wishes to remain an active voter, no action is needed. A voter who needs to update his or her information may do so on the section of the card that is provided for such changes.

Individuals who receive a voter card for someone who no longer lives at that residential address are asked to write “No Longer At This Address” or “Unknown” on the card and place it back in their mailbox.

If anyone receives a card for a family member who has passed away, he or she is asked to write “Deceased’” on the card, provide signature and relationship to the deceased, and return the card to the Board of Elections office.

Please contact the elections office at 336-593-2409 or stokes.boe@ncsbe.gov if you have any questions.
