Walnut Cove water outage repaired
by Staff Report
Walnut Cove Town Manager Byron Ellis reported late Saturday afternoon that the damage to the town’s water system had been repaired.
An update was also posted on the town’s website at 4:35 p.m. It stated that though the damage was repaired, it could take a few hours for full pressure to build up in the system.
The town experienced a water outage Saturday morning after a section of water line collapsed. The public works department began repairing the damage and informed the town that they hoped to be done by mid-afternoon.
The town website said the lower half of town was experiencing the water outage, but businesses and residents in some other areas of town also said they had no water. Ellis said the entire town was affected with low water pressure due to the loss of water from the tanks.
The break was on Highway 65, just past Hedgecock Builders Supply. The creek bank eroded due to the recent heavy rains and exposed a section of 12-inch pipe that collapsed because the earth was washed away.
