MOUNT AIRY — Mr. James Barnes, 47, of Mount Airy, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Cox-Needham Chapel.
PINNACLE — Mrs. Hazel Jane Murray Crumley, 75, of Pinnacle, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Greene Co., Tenn., on December 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Windle Murray and Sarah Bell Austin Matherly. She was a nurse and retired from the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem after 13 years of service.
Mrs. Crumley is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Harold Crumley, of the home; a daughter, Angela Denise Crumley of Winston-Salem; four sons, Bobby James Crumley and wife Teresa of Asheboro, David Lance Crumley and wife Lynn of Pinnacle, Mitchell Clayton Crumley of Pinnacle and Jonathan Gilbert Crumley and wife Charlene of Lawsonville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Crumley were conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the First Christian Church of King Cemetery with Lamar Tillman, minister, officiating. LAWSONVILLE — Juliana Tucker Doss, 76, of 6415 NC 8 Hwy N, passed away, Friday, January 11, 2013, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Stokes.
A graveside service was held at 4 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Beta Rho Educators Society. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Juliana was born on September 23, 1936, in Stokes County to the late Harry and Wilmer Moore Tucker. She attended Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Peters Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Patrick Springs School after 33 years of teaching fifth and seventh grades (1958-1991) and serving as school librarian for many years. She was also a member of the Patrick Springs School PTA and had been a member of the Patrick County Retired Teachers Association since 1991. She was a charter member and past president of Beta Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Educators Society. Also, she was a member of the Lawsonville Ruritan Club, the Lawsonville Extension Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lawsonville Volunteer Fire Department. She, along with her husband, Akers Doss, organized and led the Lawsonville Clovers 4-H Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Akers Doss.
Survivors include a sister, Waynona Sands and husband, Gene; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Doris Hawkins, Curtis and Mary Lee Doss, and Charlie Francis; several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends following the graveside service on Sunday and other times at the home of Gene and Waynona Sands, 6447 NC 8 Hwy N, Lawsonville.

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Rebecca Jane Inman, 89, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Cox-Needham Chapel.
WALNUT COVE — William “Bill” Oliver Mabe, 81, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2013, at his home.
Known as “Bill,” he was born September 1, 1931, in Stokes County to Grady and Katherine Stone Mabe. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Walkertown High School and retired from R.J. Reynolds as chief mechanic with 33 years of service. On June 26, 1953, Bill married the love of his life, Mildred Hartsoe. Bill loved restoring Model T and Model A antique cars. He was a faithful member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church where he was on the board of elders and also led the music. He also attended Fulp Moravian Church.
Fulfilling his desire, an 11 a.m. graveside service was held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Garden of Memory in Walkertown with Elder Milton Gunter and the Rev. Dan Nelson officiating.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Robert Mabe.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Hartsoe Mabe of the home; a daughter, Cathy Susan Mabe of Walnut Cove; two granddaughters, Christina Craddock Queen of Walnut Cove and Lori Lynch and husband Joey of King; three sisters, Dorothy Ball, Peggy Isley and husband Jerry of Kernersville, and Diane Boles and husband Harry of Walkertown; two brothers, Glen Mabe and wife Judy of Winston-Salem and Grady Wayne Mabe and wife Brenda of Walkertown; extended family, Gene Reid, Danny and Sheree Thomas of Walnut Cove, Jeff and Mary Alice Vanhoy of Maryland and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
In honoring Bill’s wishes, the family received friends at the home with no formal visitation held at the funeral home.

PINNACLE — Mrs. Tammy Michelle Wilson Pike, 46, of Pinnacle, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, after fighting a long hard battle of cancer. God needed another angel to come home. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Faye Chilton Reddic, 90, of Mount Airy, wife of deceased John William Reddic, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Golden Living Nursing Home. Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens.
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Ruth Lawson Tucker, 97, passed away January 13, 2013. She was born October 15, 1915, in Lawsonville, N.C., to Tyler Frank Lawson and Emma Spencer Lawson. She grew up on the farm as the third oldest child with many responsibilities. Her mother died when she was eight years old, leaving her father with seven children. Her father never remarried and continued to work his farm and love his children. Her father helped established Snow Hill Church. Ruth was baptized in Little Snow Creek near the church in August 1928. She continued to serve the church until 2009.
She and her sister Rachel Lawson Martin and her mother Emma shared the same birthday.
She is survived by her son John Neal Tucker Jr. and his wife Patricia Martin Tucker of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and their son John Justin Tucker of Charleston, S.C.; her sister Rachel Lawson Martin who resides with her son in Crouse, N.C.; and many generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Neal Tucker.
Her father was an advocate of education and encouraged his children to attend school. Ruth attended a two room school near her home for eight years and then the new brick school in Lawsonville through the 10th grade. To finish high school, she had to attend Nancy Reynolds School which had the 11th and final high school grade. She received her high school diploma in 1932.
She attended Appalachian State Teachers College 1932-1934, graduating with a teaching diploma. Later she continued her education at High Point College receiving an A Teaching Certificate.
She taught at Lawsonville School from 1934 until retirement in 1975 with the exception of two years when her son was born.
After WWII, she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5953. She enjoyed selling poppies to help disabled veterans and decorating the graves of deceased veterans each Memorial Day.
After a serious illness in 2009, she came to live with her son in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Later that year she entered Franke at Seaside assisted living facility. We were blessed to have her close for these years. The staff at Franke lovingly cared for her and were her friends.
The funeral service will be held at Snow Hill Church on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Doug Pryor and the Rev. Richard Childers will officiate the service. Mrs. “Ruthie” will be buried in the church cemetery. Local arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Mount Pleasant Chapel.

PINNACLE — Mr. David Keith Wall, 58, of Pinnacle, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Northern Hospital of Surry. A memorial service was conducted on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Shoals United Methodist Church.
WINSTON-SALEM — Mr. Timothy Andrew White, 53, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
