There is still time to register for the first ever Extension Master Gardener class in Stokes County. The registration deadline is Jan. 15 for the program that includes 16 weeks of intensive horticulture training.

The program offers participants the opportunity to participate in many community activities, such as creating and maintaining a demonstration garden; gardening with the elderly and handicapped; working at county fairs and plant clinics; conducting school gardening programs; giving talks to groups interested in horticulture; working on special events projects; planning and completing community beautification projects; photographing Master Gardener activities; judging a school science fair; and establishing and maintaining community gardens.

The cost of the Extension Master Gardener Program will be $100 per person. A completed application and a check for $100 payable to Stokes County Cooperative Extension are due by Jan. 15, 2013.

Classes begin Feb. 7 and will run for 16 consecutive weeks through May 23. For more information and an application, contact Randy Fulk, horticulture agent, Stokes Cooperative Extension, 700 North Main Street, Danbury, NC 27016, 336-593-8179,
