The Hanging Rock District (Stokes County) of the Boy Scouts of America held its annual volunteer awards banquet recently. This is the opportunity for the district to recognize the adult volunteer leaders that had a great year. Pictured are Charles Gray, past Hanging Rock district chairman, presenting the Scoutmaster of the Year award to Greg Bullins of Troop 412 in Piedmont Springs VFW troop. Greg has been the 412 Scoutmaster for two years. He was nominated and selected for this award by his peers.
At a recent banquet Lewis Woods, pictured on the left, was recognized for 70 years of Scouting. Lewis has been in just about every leadership role Scouting has. Stephen Spencer, the Hanging Rock assigned Old Hickory Council Scout leader, is pictured with Lewis. Lewis is with Troop 440. Scouting just turned 100 last year and Lewis has been a Scout or Scouter for 70 of those years.
Charles Gray, from King, is being presented his Wood badge award by Hanging Rock District Commissioner Traci Stanley, from Walnut Cove. Wood badge is an earned honor which adult leaders can work toward getting. To get the wood badge you must demonstrate your scouting skills and leadership skills. Charles was the Hanging Rock district chairman for the past three years and is active in troop, district and Old Hickory Council activities and development.
