Piney Grove Middle School eighth grade students, pictured at the Amtrak station in Salisbury, left Nov. 1 and traveled by chartered bus to Spencer, N.C., to the North Carolina Museum of Transportation. While there, they saw old trains and cars and rode a turntable, where train engines coming into the old Spencer Shop years ago turned around. From there the group moved to Salisbury and boarded Amtrak to Raleigh. Thursday evening activities included attending a soccer game on the North Carolina State Campus between State and the University of Virginia. Friday morning began with tours of the North Carolina Museum, the Capitol Building, the Legislative Building and the North Carolina Museum of History (including the North Carolina Hall of Fame). The group returned to Piney Grove late Friday afternoon. A total of 80 students, seven school staff and five parents made up the group.
