What do the Moratock Iron Furnace, a tobacco barn at the foot of Moore’s Wall, the Spainhour Cabin, the Lower Cascades at Hanging Rock State Park, the Walnut Cove Colored School, the Historic Priddy’s General Store, the R.W. George Mill, the Davis Chapel, the St. Philip’s Church, the John Martin Rock House, the Smith Cabin and Family Cemetery and Jessup’s Mill have in common?

They came together as a fundraiser for Stokes Partnership for Children in a 2013 calendar designed with a nod toward historic preservation.

Proceeds from the calendar will help to provide funding for early childhood programs, including the Stokes Family Resource Guide. Photos are courtesy of Monty Stevens Photography and Custom Framing. Images are suitable for framing and include historic structures and landscapes in Stokes County.

Stokes County’s Heritage was selected as the theme not only for the beauty and richness of the county’s architecture and landscapes, but because SPC believes that children should be given the opportunity to learn about and appreciate their heritage through first-hand experiences. The conservation of Stokes County’s heritage through historic preservation efforts, the protection of important natural areas and the preservation of history link children with the past so they better understand who they are for the future, Partnership leaders say.

Calendars are $15 and can be picked up at the following locations: Priddy’s Store and the Danbury Public Library in Danbury; Just Plain Country and the Walnut Cove Library in Walnut Cove; the King Public Library, Stokes Partnership for Children and the King Antique Mall in King.
