Dance studio holds reading contest
The sixth annual “A Dancer Reads” contest was held by Miss Joyce’s Dance Studio Sept. 10-Oct. 13. Twenty-six students participated, reading 386 books with over 13,278 pages.
The student reading the most books/pages was Melody Rose Proctor, age five, of Pfafftown. She is the daughter of Rick and Missy Proctor. This is Melody’s fourth year at Miss Joyce’s. She has taken the Twos and Moms class, Creative Movement, Acrobatics and Ballet classes. She has attended Dance Day Camp for two years and is currently taking Ballet, Acrobatics and Tap classes. Melody read 82 books with a total of 2845 pages.
Melody was crowned Reading Queen on Oct. 27. She received a crown, a dozen peach roses, a specially designed t-shirt, a reading duck, an “I love to read” bracelet and a certificate from the King Public Library.
Six additional students were named reading princesses for reading over 650 pages. They are Brianna Barnette, Hailey Hart, Ruby Hoerter, Emma Rose Hutchens, Sophie Hutchens, and Macayla Tucker. They each received a specially designed t-shirt, a rose, a reading duck and an “I love to read” bracelet. Nikki Ogburn received a special certificate for reading over 850 pages including books that were not dance related. All participants received a certificate from the King Public Library.
