After a three-month investigation into illegal activity in Germanton, officers have arrested two Winston-Salem men on drug charges.

On Nov. 30, the Narcotics Unit of the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men during an investigation at Germanton Park on Highway 65. Jovon Dewayne Scipio, 30, of 2020 N. Cliff Drive, Winston-Salem, and Derrell Antoine Shipp, 26, of 226 Foxcroft Drive, Winston-Salem, were both taken into custody.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Scipio has been coming to the Germanton area to sell crack cocaine, with Germanton Park being a common meeting place.

Sheriff Mike Marshall said in a statement, “We will continue to fight drugs in our county. The use and sell of drugs is an ongoing problem within our county and state and we will continue to demand that drug dealers get the message that they are not welcome in Stokes County.”

Scipio has been charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance, selling and delivering a schedule II controlled substance, conspiring to sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance, and obstruct / delay an officer. Bond is $75,000.

Shipp was charged with conspiring to sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance and maintaining a drug vehicle. His bond is $1,500 secured.

Some cocaine was seized during the arrests. While crack cocaine is a big problem in the county, prescription drugs are probably an even worse problem, the sheriff noted.

It is not uncommon for people to come from out of town to sell drugs in Stokes County. “We’re gonna continue to take a stance … And hopefully they’ll get the message, ” said the sheriff.

He continued, “We’re doing all we can to make our county a safer county.” With the recent arrests, Marshall said, “(That) shows that we want to keep our parks clean.”

The sheriff said he met Scipio and Shipp after they were arrested. “I welcomed them and said I had a good place for them,” he remarked.
