The Ruritan Piedmont District 31, which includes 18 North Carolina counties, held its 50th anniversary awards banquet on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Statesville, N.C.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Piedmont District 31 Ruri-Teen of the Year award to Krista Brown, daughter of Marchelle and Anthony Brown of Walnut Cove.

Krista is a member of the South Stokes High School Ruri-Teen Club. She is serving as the club president this school year and has worked to develop many projects.

Ruri-Teen is a branch of Ruritan National which gives school students an opportunity to serve their school and community. There are three Ruri-Teen Clubs in Stokes County: South Stokes High School Ruri-Teens, Pine Hall Elementary Ruri-Teens, and Germanton Elementary Ruri-Teens. The Pine Hall Ruritan Club sponsors the South Stokes and Pine Hall clubs and the Germanton Ruritan Club sponsors the Germanton club. Ruritan represents fellowship, goodwill, and community service.
