Former West Stokes football standout Alex Smith — a 5-11, 165-pound safety — recorded 29 tackles and an interception in seven games for Guilford College this season. He made 3.5 tackles behind the line for a loss of 14 yards. Smith missed three games due to a hand injury, but still managed six tilts with at least four tackles. He made a season-high six tackles, including one for a loss, in the Quakers’ Nov. 3 win over Catholic. He contributed five tackles in Guilford’s contests with Greensboro and Hampden-Sydney. Smith, a two-year starter, enters his senior season with 66 tackles in 21 games, including 10 tackles behind the line. He also had three career interceptions.
