Residents of Pilot Mountain and the Triad already know the house at 4236 NC 268 Hwy. E in Pilot Mountain for its annual magnificent display of animated Christmas lights, but for the third year its owners, Larry and Rachel Charpiat, are gearing up to present something extra special.

On Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m., Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Judy Pancoast will be presenting an outdoor Christmas concert as part of her third annual “The House on Christmas Street International Tour.” She’s travelling state to state throughout the country in her 2004 minivan, performing concerts on the lawns and in the driveways of the decorating enthusiasts who have become her biggest fans.

Back in 1998, Pancoast wrote a song called “The House on Christmas Street” as a tribute to those mega-decorated houses she’s loved all her life. Little did Pancoast know that just a few years after she wrote and recorded her song a phenomenon known as animated lighting would begin changing the way decorating enthusiasts created their displays, and her song would become their anthem. She doesn’t know when the first decorator discovered “The House on Christmas Street” and synchronized lights to it, but the trend has grown worldwide and the internet now features numerous videos of houses as far away as Australia that are playing her song. Thousands of people visiting those displays hear her song each season.

Each homeowner on the concert tour has invited Pancoast to perform at their house because they love her music, and each homeowner will collect donations for his or her favorite charity at Judy’s concert. The Charpiat’s are excited to have Judy Pancoast return for a live concert to benefit the Pilot Mountain Outreach Center, a food pantry for needy families.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Larry and Rachel Charpiat’s Pilot Mountain Christmas, 4236 NC 268 Hwy. E., Pilot Mountain (www.pilotmountainchristmas.com). Attendees are encouraged to bring a cash donation or non-perishable can goods for The Pilot Mountain Outreach Center.

Pilot Mountain Christmas is a free walk through Christmas Display with over 500,000 lights. The display is lighted 6 to 10 p.m. every night starting Thanksgiving night until January 1, 2013. Visitors park in a lighted parking lot and tour the display on lighted paths. Free hot chocolate is given to visitors every night. Santa Claus will be in his sleigh to greet visitors every Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. between Nov. 30th and Dec. 22nd. Donations are accepted.
