Artist Lance Crumley to exhibit at Apple Gallery
The Stokes County Arts Council will host the exhibit of local artist Lance Crumley during the month of December.
From an early age, Crumley enjoyed drawing and sketching. After graduating high school, he worked as a brick mason and put himself through school to become an artist of a different media. He began his career as a hairdresser/salon owner, a career which allowed him to pursue his art while avoiding the staving part of “Starving Artist.”
With encouragement from his brother, he picked up a paint brush in his early twenties and was for the first time in his life, “in love” with art. He was predominately a watercolorist for twenty years and decided to try oil paints and found a new passion. He states he is an eclectic painter, painting figure to landscape, wildlife to Plein Air and even some abstract.
Crumley is basically self-taught with some workshops with well-known artists such as Hiener Hertling, the late Tim Bruce and others. In 2010, his painting “Into the Light” won a juried wine label competition and became the label for the Duplin Winery “Serenade” wine. This led to a solo exhibit with the Duplin Winery in 2011.
Lance Crumley will be the featured artist at “Christmas In Historic Danbury.” An opening reception will be given in his honor at the Apple Gallery, 500 N. Main Street, Danbury, on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Music will be provided by Jennifer Lane and Friends. The public is invited to come to meet Lance and his family and view this array of beautiful artwork.
Crumley states, “It is true that every picture tells a story; and I want every painting to invite you to discover that story and make it your own.”
The exhibit will be on display in the Apple Gallery from November 28th through December 26, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The viewing of this exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public. Crumley’s artwork may also be observed at his website, www.lancesfineart.com.
