The Winter Dessert Theatre Series returns on Dec. 1 with “The Andrews Sisters Tribute Christmas Show.”
“Roadhouse, Where the Rhythms Rock and the Blues Roll” will be part of the Winter Dessert Theatre Series this year.
Excitement is in the air for local theatre enthusiasts, as the Winter Dessert Theatre Series returns on Dec. 1 with “The Andrews Sisters Tribute Christmas Show,” presented by First in Flight Entertainment.
This holiday musical performance will begin at 7 p.m. at Poplar Springs Elementary School, 223 Hobe Kiser Road in King, with a 6:30 p.m. pre-show presented by the “Star Catchers.”
The Winter Dessert Theatre Series is an annual program organized by the Stokes County Arts Council for the purpose of exposing high quality, touring theatre to residents of Stokes County and the Piedmont. The 2012/2013 series will feature five theatrical productions, performed at four different venues in Stokes County.
In addition to “The Andrews Sisters Tribute Christmas Show,” the series will include the following performances: “Mark Twain,” presented by Barrie Howard on January 12 at the Historic Walnut Cove Colored School, 308 Brook Street in Walnut Cove; “Haunted Murder,” presented by the NoneSuch Playmakers on January 26 at South Stokes High School Auditorium, 1100 South Stokes High Drive in Walnut Cove; “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” presented by the NC Shakespeare Festival on February 9 at King Moravian Church Fellowship Hall, 234 W. Dalton Rd. in King; and “Roadhouse, Where the Rhythms Rock and the Blues Roll,” a national touring production presented by Darryl Van Leer at South Stokes High School Auditorium on March 1, 2, and 3.
“This year’s series has the potential to be the best ever,” commented Stokes Arts President Ellen Peric. “From the Ray Charles, Little Richard and Sam Cooke musical tribute of Roadhouse, to the mystery of Haunted Murder, to William Shakespeare and Mark Twain, to the musical return of the Andrews Sisters. Everyone will find something to enjoy this season.”
Admission prices to each performance include $14 for general audience, $12 for seniors 60 and older, and $10 for Stokes Arts Members and students, and include dessert and the performance. All Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinee at 3 p.m., with dessert served beginning one hour prior to the performance.
The Winter Dessert Theatre Series is supported by the SunTrust Foundation, as well as a Grassroots Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council. “The success of the Winter Dessert Theatre Series over the past nine years is due to the faithful support of our sponsors and audience,” concluded Peric. “Thanks to them, community theatre is alive and thriving in Stokes County, North Carolina.”
