West Stokes put an end to Lexington’s season on Wednesday night with a 4-0 shutout.

Wildcats’ Head Coach Andrew O’Neal said this win was a good way to start the playoff season.

Matt Hopper had the first goal of the game at the 19:39 marker, with an assist from Thomas Hawkins. With only four minutes left in the first half, Will Moore headed the ball high into goal for the second score of the game, which brought the score to 2-0.

Hopper struck again in the second half when he turned on the jets and broke far from Yellowjacket defenders and fired a shot into the goal. Blake Gordon had the last goal of the game at the 33:44 marker. The final score of the game was 4-0.

The Wildcats’ showed their impressive control of the ball throughout the night. The defense worked to clear the ball from near goal. The Yellowjackets had several close shots all night, but could not hit the mark. Their shots flew above and to the sides of the goal.

A couple of shots hit the goal post, and others were swatted out of the way, by Wildcats’ goalie Cody Smith. The Yellowjackets had a penalty kick late in the game, but it was blocked by Smith.

West Stokes heads into its game against Forbush on Saturday with a current season record of 17-4-2.
