IN THE GALLERY - “The Vietnam Experience” exhibit is on display from January 11 through March 21, 2009, at the Apple Gallery, 500 North Main Street in Danbury. “The Vietnam Experience” is strongly interpreted in this selection of 24 paintings, watercolors, and drawings by six combat artists. From the well-known majestic painting “Sudden Squall” to a vignette drawing of the Catlo market, this exhibit artistically illustrates the varying experiences of the Vietnam War. Additionally, Mr. Herman Schroeder, Mr. David Taylor, and Mr. Richard Pipes have their service photographs and memorabilia on loan to enhance this exhibit. The viewing of this exhibit is free to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WINTER DESSERT THEATRE – The touring Theatre of North Carolina makes its debut as part of the Winter Dessert Theatre Series on Saturday, February 28 as they present “Star-Spangled Girls” at the King American Legion Post 290, 446 South Main Street in King. Drawn from the memoirs and letters of 37 women veterans, the play presents the shared memories of events and emotions about enlistment, basic training, service at home and abroad, love, and segregation in the military. Five actresses will portray WACs, WAVES, Army Nurses, and Red Cross Volunteers during our country’s most conflicting time, World War II.

On March 21, the series concludes at the Historic Nancy Reynolds School, 1585 NC Hwy 66 North, Westfield, as the NoneSuch Playmakers present “Stop the Press,” a hilarious comedy in two-acts. Join Tess, Sophie, Diana, Madeleine, and the rest of the crackpot staff of the Belle Port Zephyr as they compete with the Chronicle in breaking the news story of the year.
