The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office is at it again. Busting suspected drug dealers, that is.

Local law enforcement officials, working in conjunction with sheriff’s offices from Forsyth and Surry counties, conducted Operation Second Strike late last week. This was a follow-up to Operation First Strike which was conducted shortly after Sheriff Mike Marshall was sworn into office in December 2010.

“The arrest of these suspected drug dealers and users should be a sign to all that we will not tolerate drugs in Stokes County,” stated Sheriff Marshall.

This latest drug bust was the culmination of an undercover effort that had lasted several months. This investigation of drug distributors and users in Stokes County led to the strike on May 26. It targeted 22 suspects and resulted in 87 criminal charges.

The operation commenced at 4 a.m. on Thursday when officers met for a briefing at the sheriff’s office in Danbury. Teams of law enforcement officials then hit the streets with their assignments, filtering out all over the county.

Before long, squad cars were pulling back up at the sheriff’s office, and suspects were led in for questioning, official statements, mug shots, bail hearings and the works.

According to Captain Jeff Lemons of the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall proclaimed Operation Second Strike a success. “We will work each and every day to keep the streets of Stokes County as safe and drug-free as possible,” Marshall declared.
