Head Coach of the Warriors, David Ross said, “This will be a great opportunity for the community to come and see what all the excitement is.” The excitement he is referring to is the Walnut Cove area football program’s recent success. Last year the Warriors finished second in the Foothills Middle School Conference, knocking off two perennial powers from Surry County, Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain. Coach Ross continued, “We have something building here and we’d love for the area sports fans to witness it for themselves.”
It’s not just the Warrior football team who has turned things around either. The youngsters strapping on the helmets for the Wildcat program are on the prowl as well. Both the Varsity and JV squads posted victories in their first games this past weekend. This was after the whole Wildcat nation swept teams in the opening weekend jamboree held at North Surry two weeks ago. “The high school and middle school teams are beginning to feel the positive effects of the Wildcat organization,” Coach Ross said.
“Come on over Wednesday afternoon and see for yourself,” Coach Ross.
The Warriors will open up there season against last years conference champion, Chestnut Grove Middle School, on Wednesday, September 17th. Game time will be 6:00PM at South Stokes High School. Details on all Warrior athletics at www.sesmwarriors.com.
