Deadline to purchase veterans’ tiles is August 1|King News

The 58th Stokes County Agricultural Fair will be held September 8-13. We didn’t list the Famous Racing Pigs and Petting Zoo in our book. Both of these activities will be held this year as usual. Pick up a book and check out the entries that can be entered in the fair for adults and youth in Baked Goods, canning, home furnishings, sewing, fine arts, crafts, flowers, horticulture and field crops, livestock, poultry, rabbits and pigeons, farm and home exhibits, bees and honey, and senior citizen day on Friday.

On August 10, at 4 p.m., King Moravian Church, located at 228 West Dalton Road, King, will host a performance of the Anacrusis Handbell Ensemble to be held in the church sanctuary. The Anacrusis Ensemble, a professional handbell organization consisting of five musicians who specialize in small ensemble work, is located in the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland. Joyce Hartgrove Terry, formerly of King, is a member of this group. The ensemble specializes in versatility, performing a wide variety of music, which includes classical, popular, sacred and music that is just plain fun. First Baptist Church, 108 East School Street, off Kirby Road, King, invites you to a singing and covered dish luncheon on Wednesday, August 6, in the fellowship hall at 11 a.m. luncheon at 12 noon. Entertainment will be Cecil Cave and a group of retired pastors singing. Note: You will truly receive a blessing from this singing group. All are welcome.

The 45th Annual Corporation Meeting of Sauratown Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., Highway 66 South will be held on Saturday, August 2, with a dinner at 6 p.m. and business meeting at 7 p.m. Community is invited. An amendment to the by-laws which will allow only six active fire personnel to serve on the Board of Directors will be discussed and voted on at this meeting.

The Carl Calloway American Legion Post 290 will be observing Veterans Day in November. Have you got one of the veterans tiles in memory of your loved one? If not, now is the time to purchase one at the price of $150. If purchased by August 1, they will be installed for the Veterans Day activities. The Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets as a fundraiser for a $5,000 Dream Vacation. Tickets are $10, and if you buy five you will get a sixth one free. Town and Country Restaurant is giving one free meal (up to $8 value) with the purchase of another meal of equal or greater value. The winning ticket will be drawn on October 4 at KingFest. You can get tickets in the Chamber office, here in The Stokes News office or from any chamber member.
