Heading into Saturday’s games, Lawsonville Gold held a one-game lead over Lawsonville Black and Walnut Cove, which were tied for second at 2-2 in the standings in the Stokes County Community Basketball/Cheerleading League’s 11-and 12-year-old boys division.
However, Lawsonville Gold opened the standings a bit with a win over Walnut Cove on Saturday at Piney Grove, and Sandy Ridge provided some help again with a win over Lawsonville Black, which also pulled the Bulldogs into a tie for second place.
Eric Reeder and Shane Shelton led Lawsonville Gold to a 39-33 win over Walnut Cove to stay atop the standings. Reeder and Shelton combined for 31 points, with Reeder leading the way with 18. Shelton finished with 13 points, and Justin Gravely had four. John-Luke Charleville and Logan Stevens each scored two points.
Jacquan Martin led Walnut Cove with nine points, and J. J. Davis added eight. Steven Guiles scored seven points, and L. J. Scales finished with five. Malik Haliburton and T. J. Watson each had two points.
In Saturday’s other game, Sandy Ridge outlasted Lawsonville Black for a 48-41 win.
Like Reeder and Shelton, Chase Martin and Hunter Martin also had a big day for Sandy Ridge, as did Austin Rose and Matthew McHone for Lawsonville Black. Chase Martin and Hunter Martin combined for 31 points to offset a 27-point effort from Rose and McHone. Sandy Ridge also got a little more help from its other players.
Chase Martin led Sandy Ridge with 17 points, and Hunter Martin added 14. Bradley Whisenhunt had eight points, and Austin Mabe scored six. Jesse Whisenhunt had two points, and Ty Hundley had one.
Rose led Lawsonville Black with 17 points, and McHone added 10. Dakota Young, Jonah Slate and Bowen Morris-Ammons each finished with four points, and Jacob Mabe had two.
The teams will return to action on at Southeastern on Saturday at 9 a.m. Sandy Ridge will meet Walnut Cove at 9 a.m., and Lawsonville Gold will tangle with Lawsonville Black at 11:30 a.m.

Lawsonville and Sandy Ridge kept rolling to put a little more distance between themselves and the other teams in the Stokes County Community Basketball/Cheerleading League’s 11-and 12-year-old girls division standings.
Lawsonville raced past Francisco, and Sandy Ridge pulled out a win over Germanton.
Sabrina Dodson led the charge for Lawsonville in a 25-10 victory over Francisco. Dodson led all scorers with nine points, while Taylor Mabe, Katelyn Pyrtle and Hannah McKinney each finished with four. Lydia Richardson and Heather Nall each had two points.
Patience Wright led Francisco with four points, and Tara Hill had three. Summer Harris scored two points, and Kimberly May-Sepulveda had one point.
Sandy Ridge’s Hannah McBride and Rebecca Gunter combined for 31 points and led a balanced attack, which helped offset a 35-point effort from Germanton’s Kelli Mounce and Casey Sprinkle in the Lady Bulldogs’ 49-41 win.
McBride led Sandy Ridge with 17 points, and Gunter added 14. Emily Myers had eight points, and Mallie Ziglar scored six. Ashley Amos and Miranda Hammonds each had two points.
Mounce led all scorers with 21 points for Germanton, and Sprinkle added 14. Jordan Moser finished with four points, and Heather Davis had two.
Walnut Cove had a bye last week.
The teams will hit the court again at Southeastern on Saturday at 9 a.m. Walnut Cove and Sandy Ridge will meet at 9 a.m., and Lawsonville will battle Germanton at 11:30 a.m. Francisco will have a bye.

Francisco topped Lawsonville Gold in a battle of unbeaten teams last Saturday, and Sandy Ridge Blue also picked up a win to stay undefeated in the Stokes County Community Basketball/Cheerleading League’s eight- to 10-year-old division.
Francisco and Sandy Ridge Blue are tied atop the standings.
Also on Saturday, Sandy Ridge White tied Germanton for fourth place, and Nancy Reynolds picked up its first win of the season.
However, the biggest game of the day was between Francisco and Lawsonville Gold, as each brought a 3-0 record to the game.
Nine players scored in a balanced attack for Francisco, which ran away with a 36-24 win. Justin Gilpatric led the charge with nine points, and Jarret Slate added eight. Justin Cox and Oscar Garcia each finished with four points, and Tyler Bowman had three. Trinity Fain, Will Collins, Kenneth Myers and Roger Phillips each scored two points.
Johnny Long led all scorers with 14 points for Lawsonville Gold. Laith Nickell added four points, while Lauren Charleville, Paul-Michael Charleville and Kaitlyn Marshall each scored two.
Kole James put Sandy Ridge Blue on his back and scored 39 points in a 47-41 win over Germanton. James led all scorers in the game, and Sydney James added four points for Sandy Ridge Blue. Dray Priddy and Chandley Garner each had two points.
Andrew Tilley led Germanton with 19 points, and Tanner Birkholz added 14. Lakin Miller finished with four points, while Lauren Collins and Kaceylin Belush each had two.
Sandy Ridge White took advantage of Germanton’s loss with an 18-9 win over Lawsonville Black, which pulled Sandy Ridge White into a tie for fourth place.
Blake Williams led all scorers with 12 points for Sandy Ridge White, and Carson Watkins finished with four. Cesar Chavez had two points.
Tanna Frye and Ty Martin each scored four points to lead Lawsonville Black, and Makayla Utt had one.
Nancy Reynolds defeated Walnut Cove by forfeit.
The teams will take the court again at Sandy Ridge on Saturday at noon.
