The City of King recently unveiled a new revamped website which is expected to be more user friendly, aesthetically pleasing and useful to citizens and visitors.

One of the features City Manager Homer Dearmin believes King residents will appreciate is a CodeRed option which allows the city to immediately contact citizens via text, phone, email or all three in the event of an emergency or important matter.

“It is up to citizens to set up the notifications through the CodeRed website, which is linked near the bottom of the new webpage. Citizens can sign up now, but I want to make sure that everyone understands we will use it prudently. Citizens can select how they would like to be notified, and there are privacy settings that allow folks to ensure that their contact information won’t be used for any other purpose,” Dearmin said.

Another feature available on the new website is the ability to pay utility bills, facility rental deposits, and other fees and charges online or with a debit or credit card.

“This will make it more convenient for folks to pay, since we currently only accept cash or checks. We are still a few weeks away from this feature being available on our website and in the office, but we expect that service to be up and running by the end of November,” Dearmin said.

GovOffice, a company that designs websites for counties and municipalities has been working on the project since May of this year.

“They also managed our old website and their service and ease of access for updates has been excellent.”

Dearmin said photos, links and additional information will still be added in the weeks to come.

“I think citizens will find it easier to navigate on their desktop or laptop, and especially on mobile devices. The site also links to our Twitter and Facebook platforms, and combined with the payment and CodeRed functions, I think everyone will soon find it to be a great tool for our city.”

The feedback he’s received so far has been positive.

“I’m very happy with the more modern look and user friendliness, and I am looking forward to all of our department heads being trained on how to update and maintain department pages. We look forward to exploring how our website can make local government more accessible and informative to everyone who visits us online.”
