Vikings fall to North Wilkes

North Stokes struggled to gain momentum in a 62-0 loss to North Wilkes on Friday night.

“Our kids work hard and don’t quit,” said North Stokes coach Frank Sessoms. “That is what these kids will do the remainder of the season.”

North Wilkes got on the board early in the game with a 15-yard run from Ethan Brown on their first possession. The team scored three more times in the quarter on 31 and 10 yard runs for a 21-0 lead.

In the second quarter, after North Wilkes made it 28-0, North Stokes had their longest possession of the night with nine plays, but it ended with a turnover on downs at North Wilkes 42-yard line. Two plays later a dash of 47-yards by Jarrett Grimes made it 35-0 with five minutes left before the half.

North Wilkes added two more scores before the half with a five-yard run and a fumble recovery of 40-yards as time expired for a 49-0 lead for North Wilkes at the break.

North Wilkes added two more scores in the third and fourth quarters for the final tally.

North Stokes Austin Garcia led his team with 27-yards rushing and Mark Shaw had two catches for 14-yards. Paden Lungrin added seven tackles, Dylan Mabe and Shaw contributed six each. Isaac Wood had an interception, including a 14-yard return.

North Stokes (0-4) will host Patrick County, Va. on Friday in Danbury at 7:30 p.m. North Wilkes improves to 3-0 and will travel to Forbush (1-3).
