‘Operation Fireworks’ leads to dozens of theft charges

The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office has charged multiple people with theft in an effort dubbed “Operation Fireworks.”

The department reports that investigators have recovered property stolen from victims in Stokes, Surry and Rockingham counties. The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests expected across the three counties. More than 70 charges had been issued as of Monday afternoon.

According to Stokes County Sheriff Mike Marshall, the sheriff’s office has been watching suspects and gathering information for a couple of months and was able to issue warrants for a couple of them on Monday, July 2, “then everything fell into place.”

The following people have been charged with felony larceny and other charges so far: Tony Lee Epperson, 40, of 905 N. Main St., Walnut Cove; Joe Franklin Epperson, 37, of 1139 Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove; Jessie Allen Atkins, 24, of 901 N. Main St., Walnut Cove; Gerry Wayne Throckmorton, 37, of 523 Stokesburg Road, Walnut Cove; Jamie Dewayne Throckmorton, 18, of 523 Stokesburg Road, Walnut Cove; Joshua Edward Forbes, 23, of 1076 Murphy Road, Walnut Cove; George Earl Vargo, 36, of 907 N. Main St., Walnut Cove; Tommy Wayne Carter, 27, of 2375 Hwy. 65 West, Walnut Cove; Jason Ryan Throckmorton, 33, of 1212 Throckmorton Road, Walnut Cove.
