Walnut Cove PD investigating second armed robbery
by Meghann Evans

The Walnut Cove Police Department is investigating its second armed robbery in a few weeks. The latest occurred Tuesday night at Dollar General, and officers believe it involved the same suspects responsible for the robbery at Olympic Restaurant.

Walnut Cove Police Chief Chad Williams said two black males, who were both armed, robbed the Dollar General in town around 9:30 p.m. Williams said after viewing video surveillance of the robbery that he believes they were the same two men who robbed Olympic on Friday, May 18.

No one was injured in the armed robbery on Tuesday night. There were two store employees in the building at the time. Williams revealed few specifics of the incident, as it is still under investigation. He did say the suspects obtained some money before running out of the store, getting in a vehicle and driving toward Forsyth County on Highway 311.

From what is available on video surveillance, Williams said one of the men, described as short and heavyset, was wearing a short-sleeved brown T-shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes, and a dark hat. Some type of black cloth was covering part of his face. The second, taller male wore a gray T-shirt over a gray thermal with a green hoodie, dark pants and brown shoes. He was wearing a black glove on his left hand and had a gray T-shirt over his face.

Williams said a man and woman pulled up to the store while the robbery was going on and called 911 to report what they saw. They described the vehicle the men were driving as a cherry red suburban four-door with chrome rims and a stereo system with red and blue lights.

Williams said he had heard that several Dollar Generals in the region had been robbed recently. He said officers continue to check on local businesses regularly in hopes of preventing any future incidents and are working on locating the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the WCPD at 336-591-7121.
